Job Posting – Bilingual Reception and Casework Support Assistant

Community Legal Services of Ottawa / Services juridiques communautaires d’Ottawa (CLSO) is a community legal clinic, funded by Legal Aid Ontario. We provide legal services for the low-income residents of Ottawa, as well as community development, law reform, legal education and outreach initiatives.

The Black Legal Action Centre (BLAC) is an independent not-for-profit community legal clinic mandated to combat individual and systemic anti-Black racism through the provision of legal services to members of Ontario’s Black communities, including engagements in advocacy, community development, law reform, test case litigation, and public legal education.

CLSO and BLAC are seeking a Bilingual Reception and Casework Support Assistant for a permanent position. This is a shared position between CLSO and BLAC. The successful candidate will work 2 days a week at the CLSO west office located at 1299 Richmond Rd and 3 days a week at the BLAC and/or CLSO office located at 1 Nicholas St. This is a full-time 100% in-person position.

Responsibilities

  • Front desk duties including answering and routing calls, making initial client contact, creating intakes, providing appropriate referrals, providing basic information regarding clinic services, and punctually opening the office for business each day
  • Provide general administrative support to caseworkers including faxing, photocopying, filing, correspondence, document drafting, scheduling meetings, interpretation requests, and managing incoming documents
  • Accurately record client intake details and referrals in clinic client management system
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Capacity to work in French is required
  • Excellent client service skills and professionalism
  • Experience working in an office environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in responding sensitively to vulnerable clients’ needs
  • Ability to efficiently multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office and Adobe
  • Ability to work independently and show initiative with minimal supervision
  • Ability to innovate, learn, and adapt to new tasks, policies, and procedures
  • Experience working for a community legal clinic or other non-profit organization is an asset

The annual salary for this position is $50,000. Our compensation package includes a generous health benefits plan and pension contributions.
