Hiring Social Media Coordinator – Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) position open with Community Legal Services of Ottawa

Community Legal Services of Ottawa is seeking applicants for a social media coordinator position at our office located at 1299 Richmond Road (West), with some limited remote work.

To be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs, you must be:

  • between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

About the Social Media Coordinator Position:

  • 8-week based out of our West location starting early June.
  • Compensation for this position is 20$/hr – 35hours/week

Job Overview

We are seeking a creative, organized, and strategic Social Media Coordinator to support our legal clinic’s outreach and online presence over the summer. Working closely with clinic caseworkers and the community developer, the successful candidate will help share clear, accurate information about our services, public legal education on legal rights, and community initiatives. This role focuses on developing strategy and executing social media campaigns, creating engaging and accessible content, tracking performance, and supporting digital communications to effectively reach the Ottawa community. Candidates should have strong writing skills, an eye for information and visual design, and the ability to communicate clearly with diverse audiences.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Create and schedule social media content across platforms (Facebook, Website, Instagram)
  • Support campaign planning and outreach initiatives
  • Maintain and update a content calendar
  • Monitor channels and engage with the community
  • Track analytics and report on performance
  • Ensure clear, accurate, and consistent messaging
  • Design basic graphics and visuals
  • Support website and newsletter updates
  • Develop public legal education content with staff
  • Contribute creative ideas for outreach
  • Assist with events and special projects
  • Collaborate with staff and community partners

Skills and Qualifications

We are looking for a strong communicator with creative and organizational skills who is comfortable working in a collaborative, community-focused environment. No specific formal education is required, but experience in social media, outreach, or communications is preferred.

  • Experience creating and managing social media content
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to communicate in plain language
  • Experience with graphic design concepts and tools (e.g., Canva or similar tools)
  • Familiarity with social media trends and analytics
  • Organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple tasks
  • Comfortable working with diverse communities and partners
  • Interest in community outreach, public education, or social justice
