Community Legal Services of Ottawa is seeking applicants for Legal Administrative Assistant positions at our offices located at 1355 Bank Street, 1 Nicholas Street and 1299 Richmond Road.
Community Legal Services of Ottawa (CLSO) is a non-profit, community legal clinic, funded by Legal Aid Ontario, providing legal support for residents of Ottawa living on a low income, as well as community development and organizing, law reform, legal education and outreach services www.clsottawa.ca | https://www.facebook.com/OttawaLegalClinic/
To be eligible, you must be:
- between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
- a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
About the Legal Administrative Position:
- 8-week contract starting end of June/early July or sooner
- Compensation is $15/hour for 31 to 35 hours/week.
Anticipated Work Tasks:
- receiving incoming telephone calls and walk-in clients;
- guiding clients through screening process to identify legal issues and making referral to caseworker and/or third party as appropriate;
- supporting legal staff with client file work;
- some photocopying, scanning and faxing; and
- providing support to supervisor and administration team when and as required.
Skills Required:
- Strong communication skills (written and oral).
- Able to efficiently multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to respond sensitively to client needs.
- Strong Microsoft (Word, Outlook) skills
- Able to work independently and show initiative with minimal supervision.
- English essential with strong working knowledge of a second language (French preferred).
Important Points to Note:
- The Legal Administrative Assistant must be able to work both remotely AND in-person, and comply with social distancing and other requirements set by CLSO related to COVID-19. This position may require the Legal Administrative Assistant to use their own personal electronic devices.
- Interview dates are anticipated to take place in early to mid-June.
